Tutor Profiles
Tutors from Fleet Tutors are qualified and experienced in helping
students of all ages and ability to achieve their goals. Fleet Tutors
offers thousands of individually screened local tutors whose wide
expertise includes exam preparation ranging from SATS through
to GCSE, AS, A-level, university and beyond. We have tutors
who coach children through the 7/8+, 11+ and Common Entrance
exams to gain entrance to the highly selective grammar and
independent schools as well as tutors who are qualified to help
students with special needs such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADD.

Margaret Skinner Caterham, Surrey
With several decades experience teaching primary school aged children,
Mrs. Skinner has vast knowledge which spans both the state and independent
sectors. Mrs. Skinner received her teaching qualification in 1955.
After 30 years teaching in English primary schools including two
years at the British School in Beirut, Mrs. Skinner took early retirement.
She has been tutoring with Fleet Tutors for fourteen years where
she specializes in helping children succeed at 11+, common entrance
and more recently 7/8+ entry exams.
Mrs. Skinner is a friendly and inspiring tutor. Her philosophy
is to make learning a pleasurable experience for the child. Mrs.
Skinner admits "I didn't enjoy school myself so decided when
I became a teacher to make sure learning is not an unpleasant effort
but is really and truly enjoyable". Mrs. Skinner's results
speak for themselves. The children she tutors regularly gain admission
to some of the leading independent and grammar schools, including
Croyden, Sutton and Reigate grammar schools.
Rob Kirton Fleet, Hampshire
Mr. Curtin completed his BSc Electrical Engineering in 1974. He
then earned a Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Physics
1976 and began his full time teaching career. In 1978 he completed
a course in counselling skills for teachers. In the late 1980s he
began his tutoring career also working as a supply teacher in Physics
and Physical Science. His patient, mature teaching style has proven
very successful with GCSE students as well as preparing younger
pupils for Common Entrance and other school entry exams.
Mrs. S. Brown, SW London
With a Certificate in Education from Oxford, Mrs. Brown has extensive
teaching experience in all subjects covered by students of age 6
to 13 in London's leading independent preparatory schools. Mrs.
Brown brings a wealth of knowledge on how to help children succeed
in 7/8/11+ and common entrance exams. As a former Year 6 teacher
in a London prep school with several years' experience in the state
sector, she has the ideal perspective, curriculum knowledge and
experience to help children who are transferring from the state
to independent sector. Mrs. Brown is also qualified in helping children
with learning difficulties such as dyslexia.
Anthony Lowes, Chelmsford Essex
Born in Australia, Mr. Lowes earned his teaching certificate for
Maths in 1972. After some business experience in accounting, he
attended a Law Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School and
began teaching law in schools. He registered with us in 1994 and
has served as a supply teacher since 1997. He has a good understanding
of national curriculum and is much praised by his students.
